Responsibilities

The Fitness Program Coordinator provides Newport Healthcare clients with a structured, healthful way to exert physical energy and develop fitness skills and habits.


Essential Duties:

  • Develop and implement structured, safe, effective, comprehensive, engaging, and equal fitness programming for male and female clients.
  • Conduct group and individual sessions that include activities/games which develop strength flexibility, and cardio fitness.
  • Create fitness plans and activities for individual clients as requested.
  • Provide coaching to prevent injury and build motivation.
  • Facilitate learning about the value/role of physical activity in internal control, empowerment, optimism, and recovery.
  • Interact with milieu and encourage participation in activities.
  • Encourage proper care and usage of equipment and facilities.
  • Establish and adhere to a regular inspection schedule of all fitness programming equipment and facilities to ensure safety.
  • Conduct ongoing review and evaluation of the fitness program, including feedback from clinical stakeholders and clients, and make appropriate changes.
  • Instill enthusiasm about the importance of developing healthy exercise habits/lifestyle.
  • Complete documentation timely and according to established standards.
  • Communicate with clinicians, direct care staff, and parents as needed.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required, Bachelor’s degree in Sport and Exercise Science or Kinesiology preferred.
  • Certification in a movement/flexibility/fitness practice preferred.
